OverView
The Cardpointe Retail Terminal is a standalone payment solution that does not require a point-of-sale (POS) system or complex software integration. It can be set up with a power source and a wired internet connection, allowing businesses to quickly begin accepting payments. All transactions are protected with PCI-certified point-to-point encryption (P2PE) and CardPointe’s tokenization technology to help keep payment data secure.

CardPointe Reporting & Virtual Terminal
The CardPointe Web application and CardPointe Mobile app connect directly to the CardPointe gateway, providing access to transaction information and account management tools from virtually anywhere. These tools allow users to review transaction activity,manage customer profiles, process payments, and issue refunds through the virtual terminal when a physical terminal is unavailable.
Real Time Transaction Reporting
The CardPointe platform provides access to detailed transaction and account information, including:
- Transaction history and transaction details
- Search and filtering options based on criteria such as date, location, amount, and card number
- Custom report creation using saved filters
- Batch and funding status information
- Monthly statements and account records

What’s New
Version 4.0.2 of the CardPointe Retail Terminal application includes several updates designed to improve usability and transaction processing.
Menu Updates
The keypad shortcuts used to access certain terminal functions have been updated:
- Tip adjust/search moved from key 5 to key 4
- Close Batch moved from key 6 to key 5
- Other moved from key 7 to key 6
Improved Decline and Timeout Handling
The terminal now provides enhanced handling for declined transactions and communication timeouts with the CardPointe Gateway. If the terminal does not receive a response from a Gateway, a “please retry” message is displayed and the original transaction attempt is automatically voided.
Voice Authorizations No Longer Supported
Voice authorizations are no longer supported on the terminal. If a transaction requires contacting the card issuer, the cardholder should be asked to provide an alternative payment method.
New Terminal and PIN Pad Availability
The Desk/2600 CardPointe Retail Terminal and Desk/1600 PIN Pad are now available. These devices replace the Desk/3500,Desk 5000, and the Desk/1500 models,which have reached end-of-life and are no longer available for new orders.
Setting up the CardPointe Retail Terminal
The following steps provide instructions for setting up and connecting the Desk/2600 CardPointe Retail Terminal.
What’s Included

Connecting the Terminal
- Flip the terminal over and remove the trap door
- Connect the USB-C POS data cable and route the cable along the side of the device
- Replace the trap door
- Connect the USB-C POS data cable to the magic box port labeled POS. Connect the USB-C power adaptor to the magic box port
- Connect the Ethernet cable to the magic box port labeled ETH
- Install the Magic Box base/USB-C connector clamp
- Connect the Ethernet cable to your network appliance and connect the power supply to a power outlet.
- The terminal should power on and connect
Confirming Connectivity
The CardPointe Terminal displays a network status icon in the top-left corner of the screen:
- The icon displays as white when disconnected from the network
- The icon displays as green when connected to the network
Checking Network Settings
To check the current network settings:
- Press .,#* on the keypad to access the Admin Menu
- Press 4 for Setup Menu
- Press 2 for Communications
- Press 3 for Ethernet
- Press 1 for Current Setup
- The current network settings are displayed on the screen

Setting Up the PIN Pad
The following information explains how to pair a Desk/1600 PIN Pad with a Desk/2600 Terminal

The Desk/1600 PIN Pad serves as a secure,encrypted extension of the terminal and provides the following benefits:
- Customer facing interface for completing transactions
- Compatible with both credit and PIN debit transactions
- Supports contactless payments, including Apple Pay, Google Pay, and contactless cards

Important : The terminal must be disconnected from power before connecting the PIN Pad
Connecting the PIN Pad
- Disconnect the terminal from the power source
- Connect the 90-degree end of the PIN Pad USB cable to the USB port labeled USB Host on the magic box
- Turn over the PIN Pad and slide the USB port lock aside to access the USB Port
- Connect the USB cable to the PIN Pad and slide the USB port lock closed to secure the cable
- Reconnect power to the terminal and allow the terminal to connect to the PIN Pad
- The terminal and PIN Pad will power cycle and are ready to use when the CardPointe background screen is displayed
Using the Terminal
Running a sale (Retail)
- Press 1 for sale
- Press 1 for Credit or 2 for Debit ( if enabled)
- Enter the sale amount and press enter
- Swipe, insert, tap, or key in the customer’s card
- If prompted to enter a PIN, ask the customer to enter their PIN on the terminal or the external PIN Pad
- optionally , press 2 to print a customer copy of the receipt
Adding a server (Resturant)
- Press .,#* for the Admin Menu
- Press 2 for the Server Menu
- Press 1 for Add ID
- Enter a Server ID and press Enter
- Press 1 to exit or press 2 to enter another Server ID
Running a Sale (Resturant)
- Press 1 for Sale
- Press 1 for Credit or 2 for Debit (if enabled)
- Enter the Server ID and press Enter
- Enter the sale amount and press Enter
- Ask the customer to follow the remaining prompts on the terminal or PIN Pad
- The customer is prompted to confirm the amount
- The customer is prompted to select a tip option
- If a tip is included, the customer is prompted to confirm the final amount
- The customer swipes, insert, or tap a payment card
- The customer may be prompted to enter a PIN or press Enter to bypass
- Optionally, press 2 to print a customer copy of the receipt
Performing a Tip Adjustment (Restaurant)
Tip adjust is disabled for terminals that tip at the time of sale
- Press 4 to Tip Adjust
- Press 5 to search by card number, or choose a different search option
- Enter the last 4 digits of the card number and press Enter, or swipe the card
- Secret the transaction you want to adjust and press Enter
- Enter the tip amount and press Enter
- Press Enter to confirm
- Press 1 to exit, or press 2 to perform another tip adjustment
Returning/Refunding a Transaction
- Press 2 for Return.
- Press 1 for Credit.
- Enter the refund amount and press Enter.
- Swipe, insert, tap, or key in the customer's card.
- Optionally, press 2 to print a customer receipt.
Voiding a Transaction
- Press 3 for Void.
- Press 1 to select No for Void Pre-Auth.
- Press 5 to search by card number, or choose a different search option.
- Enter the last 4 digits of the card number and press Enter, or swipe the card.
- Press 2 to confirm.
- Optionally, press 2 to print a customer receipt.
Reprinting a Receipt
- Press 6 for Other.
- Press 3 for Reprint.
- Press 1 for Last Receipt or press 2 to search for a transaction.
Last Receipt
Press 1 for Merchant Copy, press 2 for Customer Copy, or press 3 for Both.
Search for a Transaction - Press 1 to select No for Reprint Pre-Auth.
- Press 5 to search by card number, or choose another search option.
- Enter the last 4 digits of the card number and press Enter, or swipe the card.
- Select the transaction to reprint and press Enter.
- Press 1 for Merchant Copy, press 2 for Customer Copy, or press 3 for Both.
Printing a Report
- Press .,#* for the Admin Menu.
- Press 1 for the Reports Menu.
- Select a report and any additional options.
- Press 1 to print the report, or press 2 to view the report on the terminal.
Manually Close and Settle a Batch
At the end of a shift or business day, you can manually close and settle the open batch.To manually close and settle a batch, do the following:
- Press 5 for Settlement.
- Press 2 to close the batch and deposit funds.
- Press 2 to print a report, or wait 15 seconds for it to print automatically.
TROUBLESHOOTING
Manually Updating Your CardPointe Terminal
Your CardPointe Retail Terminal is configured to automatically check for updates on monthly basis. If necessary, you can force an update of your terminal by following the steps below:
Updating requires the current batch to be closed and submitted for settlement. Press 5 to close the batch and settle your transactions, or perform the update after the batch closes automatically.
- Press .,#* to access the Admin Menu.
- Press 5 to select Maintenance.
- Press 1 for Download.
- Press 2 to Start download.
The terminal will download and install the update, displaying several messages during the process. When the terminal reboots and returns to the CardPointe home screen, it is ready for use.
Checking Your Device’s Firmware Version
- Restart your terminal by pressing and holding the .,#* and yellow buttons simultaneously until the 'Reboot in Progress' message is displayed.
- The terminal will display several messages during the reboot. The Package Version screen will list your current firmware as the App version:
