Ingenico iSMP4 User Guide
The Ingenico iSMP4 is a lightweight, Wi-Fi-enabled payment device that allows you to accept payments on the go, including MSR (magnetic stripe), EMV (chip), and NFC (contactless) payments.
Connected directly to your point-of-sale system through a Wi-Fi connection, the iSMP4 secures transactions using EMV technology and point-to-point encryption (P2PE), helping keep transactions secure and PCI compliant.
This guide provides an overview of the iSMP4, along with information for ordering, setting up, and configuring the device. For detailed integration information, see the CardPointe Integrated Terminal API.
Benefits and FeaturesBy integrating the iSMP4 with your CardPointe Integrated Terminal P2PE solution, you can:
- Minimize your PCI compliance scope with point-to-point encryption. The device encrypts sensitive card data and transmits it over a secure HTTPS connection.
- Process payments using a Wi-Fi connection.
- Accept all payment types, including MSR (magnetic swipe), EMV (chip), and NFC (contactless).
- Easily add devices without making changes to your existing integrations.
Date Updated: 10/18/2022
The Bolt family of integrated solutions is transitioning to CardPointe Integrated Payments.
Over the coming weeks, terminals will receive an update that includes minor changes, such as updated default themes and branding for terminals that are not configured with custom branding.
Terminals update automatically during the nightly reboot window. Leave terminals powered on and connected to the network overnight to ensure the update is completed successfully.
After the update, you may notice the following changes:
- If the default wallpaper and theme are being used, the Bolt wallpaper and logo will change to CardPointe Integrated Terminal.
- The Bolted and Unbolted statuses will change to Connected and Disconnected.
For Ingenico terminals, the PIN entry prompt for EMV PIN Debit cards now displays additional information, including:
- The Application Label, which identifies the EMV application name read from the card (for example, "US Debit")
- Instructions for bypassing PIN entry:
"Press the Red X to Cancel or the Green Circle to Bypass"
Supported Connection TypesThe iSMP4 requires a connection to a password-protected Wi-Fi network. Bluetooth and certificate-based authentication are not currently supported.
The iSMP4 uses the WPA-PSK security protocol for Wi-Fi authentication. WPA-PSK (Wi-Fi Protected Access II Pre-Shared Key) requires a network name (SSID) and password (WPA-PSK) to connect the device to your network.
See Configuring the iSMP4 Wi-Fi Settings for additional information.
Secure Network Configuration Best PracticesConsider the following recommendations when configuring your network for the iSMP4:
- Configure a DHCP IP address range to connect terminal devices to a dedicated subnet. Alternatively, use static IP addresses reserved for the devices.
- Configure a WPA-protected Wi-Fi network that requires a password. Optionally, access can be restricted to specific MAC addresses or IP addresses. For additional security, you can limit the services and ports allowed to communicate across the network.
To order an iSMP4 device, contact your account manager.
