The CardPointe Mobile device (ID TECH VP3300)

Overview

The CardPointe Mobile device (ID TECH VP3300) allows you to securely accept:

  • Contactless/NFC payments
  • Chip/EMV payments
  • Magnetic stripe/swipe payments

The device connects to your mobile payment application and works with the CardPointe Mobile SDK to securely process transactions.

Note: The ID TECH VP3300 is only available for merchants processing on the First Data Rapid Connect platform.

This guide provides information for setting up, using, and troubleshooting the CardPointe Mobile device.

Setting Up Your Device

Setting up the CardPointe Mobile device is simple:

  1. Charge the device
  2. Pair the device with your mobile application
Charging the Device

The device ships partially charged and should be fully charged before first use.

To charge the device:

  1. Connect the micro USB cable to the device
  2. Plug the cable into a powered USB port or AC adapter

Charging time may vary depending on the power source, but the device typically fully charges within 4–6 hours.

Battery Status Indicators

The bottom LED on the rear of the device indicates battery status.

LED Status

Meaning

Solid Red

Battery is charging

Flashing Amber

Battery level is low; charge the device or connect it to power

Stops Flashing While Connected to Power

Battery is fully charged


Pairing the Device

Once the device is charged, pair it with the mobile app running on your phone or tablet.

Important: Do not use your phone or tablet’s Bluetooth settings menu to pair the device. Pair the device directly through your payment application's device or pairing menu.

The exact pairing steps may vary depending on your mobile payment application, but the general process is outlined below.

Step 1: Enable Bluetooth

Ensure Bluetooth is enabled on your phone or tablet and confirm that no other Bluetooth devices are currently connected.

Step 2: Open Your Mobile App

Launch your mobile payment application and log in if required.

Navigate to the device or pairing section within the application.

Step 3: Power On the Card Reader

Press the power button on the CardPointe Mobile card reader to turn on the device and make it discoverable.

The device appears as:

IDTECH-VP3300-xxxxx

The last five digits match the serial number printed on the label located on the bottom of the device.

Step 4: Connect the Device

Select the device within your application to complete the pairing process.

Once connected, the Bluetooth status LED (top LED on the rear of the device) flashes quickly to indicate the device is paired and connected successfully.

Pairing Troubleshooting

If you are unable to pair the device:

  • Verify that your phone or tablet does not already have active Bluetooth connections
  • Disconnect any devices connected through the auxiliary jack or Lightning port, such as headphones
  • Ensure Bluetooth is enabled on your mobile device

Using Your Device

The CardPointe Mobile card reader communicates with your mobile payment application using Bluetooth.

When your application initiates a payment request, you or the cardholder can:

  • Insert a chip card
  • Swipe a magnetic stripe card
  • Tap a contactless card or mobile wallet

When inserting or swiping a card, the front of the card should face away from you.

















Understanding the LED Indicators

The CardPointe Mobile device includes three LED indicators on the rear of the device that display Bluetooth, payment, and battery status information.

Top LED – Bluetooth Status

The top LED indicates the Bluetooth connection status.

Flashing at a normal speed

Bluetooth is on standby

Flashing quickly

The device is paired and connected

Middle LED – Payment Status

The middle LED indicates that the device is currently processing a payment transaction.

Bottom LED – Battery Status

The bottom LED displays the battery and charging status.

Device Pairing Issues

If you are unable to pair the CardPointe Mobile device with your application, try the following troubleshooting steps:

  • Ensure that your phone or tablet does not currently have any active Bluetooth connections
  • Disconnect any devices connected through the auxiliary jack or Lightning port, such as headphones
  • Confirm that you are pairing the device through your mobile payment application's device or pairing menu, not through your phone or tablet’s Bluetooth settings menu
  • Connect the card reader to a power source and try pairing again

After completing these steps, attempt the pairing process again within your mobile application.





Identifying a Device

If multiple CardPointe Mobile devices are being used, you may need to identify which device you are pairing with your application.

During the pairing process, the device appears as:

IDTECH-VP3300-#####

The last five digits match the final five digits of the serial number printed on the label located on the bottom of the device.

Use the serial number label to confirm you are selecting the correct device during pairing.



Waking Up and Reconnecting the Device

To help conserve battery life, the CardPointe Mobile device automatically enters standby mode after 20 seconds of inactivity.

To wake the device:

  • Press the power button located on the side of the card reader

Once powered back on, the device should automatically reconnect to your phone or tablet within approximately 15 to 30 seconds.

Note: You should not need to pair the device again after waking it from standby mode.
