What fraud controls can I enable? What do they do?

CardSmart offers several fraud prevention tools to help protect your business from unauthorized or suspicious transactions. You can enable the fraud controls that best fit your business needs.

Address Verification Service (AVS)

AVS verifies the billing address entered by the customer against the address on file with the card issuer. You can choose which AVS responses to accept or decline.

If a transaction is blocked, the authorization may still appear on the customer's account until the batch is closed. Once the batch is settled, blocked transactions are automatically voided.

BIN Blocker

The BIN Blocker allows you to block transactions based on the first six digits of a payment card, which identify the card issuer. You can also choose to block specific card types, such as credit, debit, or prepaid cards.

IP Blocker

The IP Blocker allows you to block transactions originating from specific IP addresses, ranges of IP addresses, or groups of IP addresses. This can help prevent fraudulent activity from known sources.

CVV Verification

CVV Verification checks the card's security code (CVV, CID, or similar) during a transaction. You can choose which verification responses to accept or decline.

If a transaction is blocked, the authorization may still appear on the customer's account until the batch is closed. Once the batch is settled, blocked transactions are automatically voided.

Country Blocker

The Country Blocker allows you to allow or block transactions based on the country from which they originate. The customer's location can be determined using their IP address or billing or shipping information.

Duplicate Detection

Duplicate Detection helps prevent accidental duplicate charges by identifying transactions with the same card number, transaction amount, and payment source within a specified time period.

Email Blocker

The Email Blocker allows you to block transactions from specific email addresses, domains, or certain free email providers, depending on your business requirements.

Transaction Amount Limits

This feature allows you to set minimum and maximum transaction amounts. Transactions that fall outside the defined range are automatically blocked.

Velocity Control

Velocity Control helps prevent fraud by limiting the number of transactions that can be attempted within a specified period of time. This can help protect your business from repeated transaction attempts using stolen payment information.

Risk Score

Risk Score evaluates each transaction in real time and assigns a fraud risk score. Transactions that exceed your selected risk threshold can be automatically blocked.

3D Secure (3DS) Verification

3D Secure Verification adds an extra layer of security by validating eligible online card transactions. You can configure how CardSmart handles transactions that use 3D Secure authentication.

By enabling the fraud controls that best fit your business, you can reduce the risk of fraudulent transactions while maintaining a smooth payment experience for your customers.
